Compared to you or me then yea.. for professional HW standards not so much.. he calls it fast upstairs, his only saving grace is the ostrich defense and the bad refs.
The ostrich defence, me gusta
There are lots of instances of HWs packing it in once they were in danger. A lot of it is conditioning. They know they're on borrowed time. Mir and Overeem are great examples.
Brock Lesnar and Big Nog no gusta.
Shane Carwin was like fook that before the ref had time to react or wasn't a fan.
Or Mark Hunt, Fedor, Roy Nelson, Cain Velasquez, Ben Rothwell or JDS. I could continue the list - it's rather long. I have to disagree with Mir here.
Brock is all toughness. Mir is still salty that half of them beat the shit out of him
Don't think mental toughness has a lot to do about it.
There's a reason HW has the highest KO ratio.
Not a whole lot about mental toughness when the fighter is KTFO'd.
Were not really talking about guys being finished by one shot though were talking fighters who don't perform as well under pressure or when hurt.
The high KO ratio is I think part of that, its much easier to build a career based on finishes at HW and that can cover for a lack of toughness under pressure or indeed on simply not focusing as much on working on training to deal with such situations.
Again though I think it goes both ways, HW has had quite a few big names that fold under pressure but its also had some big names who are up there with the toughest fighters in MMA history mentally.
I attribute the KO ratio due to just that much more power being thrown around, as well as HW's doing the stanky leg or getting TKO'd.
That baby being held in the air? DAFUQ?
I'll just leave this here along with the rest..
obviously, try how many leg kicks u can take against mighty mouse than try with overeem or cro cop see where u will quit faster
this thread is about fat people getting offended
We are talking about a division where there is a high chance for you to be Ko'd. This is one of the most mentally grueling drains on fighters health. We have seen other fighters freak out after getting Ko'd once in other divisions. The HW division is made up of people who have been Ko'd many, many times. Frank Mir should know this since he has first hand experience in being Ko'd and coming back to fight.
Plenty of examples of mental toughness in HW
Kongo fighting on the brink of death against Barry
JDS never giving up in the 2nd and 3rd Cain fights
Hunt and Nelson taking beatings of Miocic...Nelson taking beatings from a lot of people
Bigfoot and Travis repeatedly getting in the octagon knowing they will get KO'd
Carwin against JDS
The whole of Hunt/Bigfoot I
Infact thinking on it I can't think of many displays of mental toughness from Mir so this seems like he's projecting
Mir was meerly trying to lure Hunt into his guard, Goddard didn't know what to do since Hunt seemed disinterested and just called it...lol
That's a stupid generalization!
