Watches are very subjective. It really boils down to your budget and wants. Do you want a manual watch? automatic? quartz? What are you going to use it for? casual? business? active? If your budget is high enough personally you can't go wrong with timeless mainstream brands like Rolex or Omega. They also keep their value well.
If all you care about is aesthetics they are tons of nice watches in the sub $1000 range. Also if you don't mind purchasing in the gray market, you can get significantly better deals on a number of high-end watches. I purchased a Baume and Mercier automatic chrono for ~$1000 gray market with no tax. The same watch purchased through an authorized dealer would have been more than 3x as much. I have the exact same Speedmaster as shown earlier, which is my favorite. For my next watch I want the Rolex Explorer I or Grand Seiko Snowflake. Since buying another watch is such a low priority on my want list, I don't see that happening anytime soon. I still can't beleive I have any watches > $1000 since I'm such a cheap bastard, but then again since I got great deals on both watches. I could probably sell them for 90-100+% of what I bought it for if I keep them in excellent condition and maintained.
Didn't see some of your other posts until now. You might be able to get a nice blue faced speedmaster gray market for ~$6k.
Breitling > Rolex.
At least in my opinion.
Have you looked at Bulova watches? You don't have to spend more than $1,000 and they're pretty solid and look better than many other high-end watches. I've owned 2 and looking forward to my next one.
Thanks i got it serviced right before that pic and actually put it in a case for indefinitely.
GS snowflake is a beautiful watch
I may be a little slow. I have no idea what the grey market is.
Basically if you purchase from an unauthorized dealer. Ex. Buying a Rolex off amazon.
I've also heard from some folks that they've seen rolexes and panerai's being sold at Costco of all places. That would be grey market as well.
are they legit products. I've seen many fake Rolexes as I walk in NYC sometimes.
lmao 6g for a rubber strap? Why do people still wear watches nowadays? For accessories? What are you a girl? Do you hold a man purse too?
Yeah they're legit. Grey market items can be had for cheaper prices but afaik you may have issues with your warranty.
I don't get the love for the Explorer II. I think it looks too much like the Submariner (ie: the BMW of watches) which everybody has on their wrist. To me, the Explorer I is more distinctive, more attractive, and more recognizable. Everybody and their kid brother makes a dive watch that looks more or less similar to the Sub (and hence Explorer II), but I've never seen anything else that cribs the Explorer I style.
I actually have that watch and like it a lot.
My impression is that people who are into watches respect Seiko and especially the Grand Seiko line. It's those to whom watches are just a fashion accessory that it is not a "better brand name".
