Today marks the release of the trailer for a film that will surely be one of the best horrors of the past decade

Neon Demon, by Nicolas GOATing Refn.

The hipster genius director responsible for all time classics Drive and Only God Forgives, almost classics Bronson and Pusher, before the Revenant was cool cinematography heavy journey Valhalla Rising, and this classic 53 second vignette

Coming into Mayberry Lounge and seeing the ridiculous amount of attention cheap mainstream comic films get is becoming sickening. Whoever made the Korean Action Movies thread, props to you, this section needs more appreciation for great, artistic cinema.

I will make sure to bump this thread in a few months when Neon Demon drops and becomes a confirmed classic. In the meantime, lettuce appreciate a director who makes compelling, divisive cinema and whos craft gets better and better with every film.

Especially interested in Only God Forgives opinions. One of my all time favorite films, but one that got booed at Cannes and has had a polarizing effect on people

Yes I do like him...not terribly interested in that new film though I have to say. I really liked Drive, and I absolutely love Valhalla Rising even though some of it is a bit daft. Drive is his best I think, but I have a soft spot for Valhalla Rising as I love the style and mood of the film.

While you are criticising the mayberry for being too cheap and mainstream, are you not aware that we have a fantastic Serious Movie Discussion thread?

Absolutely not. OGF might be his best work, and shows his continuing evolution as a director.

Not a fan of this guy's work at all. The only thing good about Bronson was Hardy's performance but other than that it was pretty soulless and felt like a poor man's Chopper. Drive was a pretentious pile of turd and I make a point of avoiding his movies now.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely loved Drive and Bronson. OGF could've been a complete disaster for his career if not for his earlier success.

I think pretentious might be the most overused word in the world.

Were you one of the people that requested a refund after seeing Drive thinking it was like Fast and Furious?

Its not that fantastic though. Its cool I have a desk job where I can come on Sherdog, but I can't be reading posts that are as long as the majority of the ones in there. Honestly, even on my free time i'm not sure i'd want to. Not saying its a bad thing, cool the discussions between those guys get like that, but its just a bit much for me to keep up with.

Can you blame me for criticizing this section? It is what it is, if the majority of people in this section only follow mainstream films then so be it. Its just my opinion that its a shame these lousy comic films get soooooo much attention while great films get barely any in comparison. The Invitation was one of the best horror movies i've seen in a long time, a certified cult classic, and I was the only one talking about it. Thats just one example, it seems indie films in general really get no love outside of that thread, but what can you do.

Eh, it might be a bit of stretch if I said it was good for his career, but I don't see it as bad. The film is polarizing. Got boo'd at Cannes and obviously some hate it (those French pussies also bood Taxi Driver), yet on the flip side there is a very strong fan base for the film that believe it to be great. Kind of added to his notoriety.

Frenchie's don't know when they see a good film anyway.

Carey and Ryan's chemistry was off the charts. Got me so hard.

No. Fortunately I was watching it for free downloaded straight off pirate bay and switched it off after 5 minutes, drank 20 cans of red bull then sat up all night and had a Fast & Furious marathon. No harm done and it made up for the 5 mins of my life I had wasted.
