Watched this one earlier today and I have to say it was a lot more clever and amusing that I expected it to be.

For those who don't know what it's about, it's a tongue-in-cheek mockumentary about a rapper/pop star who is trying to hold shit together after his sophomore album fails to perform on the charts.

The film has a 77% on RT, but only made an ABSOLUTELY ABYSMAL $9.6 million at theaters. It really deserved better than that. It's a smarter movie than it appears on the surface and, in my opinion at least, feels really fresh and unlike everything else on the current film landscape.

i loved that film, great parody on the whole music industry.

meadows played an awesome character as his manager.

definitely the funniest movie i saw in recent times.

but i got a question. where the fuck did my thread go on this!? its been removed from my thread history too.

the movie tanked indeed which was really shocking. it had near to no marketing though, i didnt hear about it till i was browsing new release movies on foxtel here in aus.

damn, just did some investigation and dragonlord merged my thread with his after it got more traction lol. :(

Agreed. It's pretty awesome that they got all these cameos, too. It's fun to see all the musicians that show up and the bit where Martin Sheen KOs him had me LOLing.

    Agreed again.

I'd say that's probably right. I don't watch a ton of comedies but this is definitely the best one I've seen in a while.

Does DLX have a thread on this? I just ran a search and didn't come up with anything.

The last good comedy before Pop Star that I can remember is Sisters. I thought that was pretty funny.

    I second that.

Yeah, I dunno man. A sub-$10 million return is a fucking DISASTER. It really deserved better and I'm not sure why it performed so poorly. It's good they only spent $20 million on it and didn't lose more money than they did.

Oh shit, I'll have to check that out. Probably just a matter of time until this one is merged as well.

Dude, so many good moments. Seal and the Wolf Attack. The shit with the audio and the killer bee. Aquaspin and the music-playing appliances. The bit about how everyone thinks he doesn't have a dick. Fuck me like we fucked Bin Laden. Michael Bolton of all people showing up at the end.

I could go on. Funny shit.

Shit, I guess somehow I missed that part.

Nope you got it man, that was the aquaspin moment where they installed their music to play on every device just the way u2 installed their album breaching privacy laws on everyone's iPhones!

And Hunter the Hungry was just a clone of Tyler the creator, he was great. The whole I did it bit, and when Conor was getting pissed off he wasn't getting stage time and hunter is like 'I'm never leaving this stage!' Obviously bad paraphrasing but that's the jist I remember. Haha I'm getting excited again to watch it soon!

lol the things I forgot from earlier.
    - when the guy playing guitar goes on to say his favourite thing is flatlining.
    - When they talk bout twitter followers and kid contact is says a lot of his followers are bots.
    - The guy that made the song bout things in his jeep and nas is like 'I didn't connect with that song because we have different things in our car.
    - And I can't stop laughing at that wedding scene, the guys like 'I can't tell seal to stop singing!'
    - When kid contact and Lawrence are on the phone chatting and kid contact is like what's that noise in the back to a baby sheep and Lawrence is like 'that's my girlfriend, were just having sex'.
    - The car scene to after that concert.
    - When he wakes up smashed and his like 'guys really funny, who pissed on me again!?'
    - when hunter is on stage going over time and his like 'I'm never going to leave this stage, I'm going to die up here! You better get a bed pan!'

The list really just goes on and on!
