Yea, and we just switched to ICD-10, which is about 10x more difficult. I have to input Medicaid claims pretty often, which is the only time I really deal with diagnosis codes, and the different between ICD-9 and ICD-10 is YUGGEEEE. Basically the codes used to just be basic, there were just general codes for "head issues" and things of that nature, and now instead of a code for all head issues, there's a separate code for each.

So instead of, for instance, 249.9 as a code for head injury (just an example), you have a code like XJF299.9 for (migraine)

    made everything way more complex

Yea, I got lucky getting into this field with a small company, most people go to college for this shit. Most places wouldn't hire you without the cert, even if you passed the test. But since I already have 4+ years experience in the billing field, if I passed the test, I'd pretty much get hired anywhere.

This job really is better suited for females, oh well, not as bad as being a male nurse.

Does your medical practice get into universal care --- where you are on the hook forever for any complications that arise from the billable procedure?

You have to take the test, but there ls literally a 3 inch thick book at every coders desk, in the actual workplace, that has every single code and rule in it.

Lol, the ICD codes fucking suck. I miss just being able to go straight off the DSM when I enter auth requests.

10% of the working US population works in healthcare. The SBBC is not immune. Looks like there are 3 poster here (at least) that work in medical billing.

I've been part of an effort to get a new CPT (Current Procedural Terminology). That's how a new medical procedure/device use gets reimbursed by CMS or insurers.
