It's no debate. There are some fundamentals that you have to follow in order to build muscle and to the average gym goer meal timing simply isn't one of them.

Probably due to adherence which is important.

I've fasted for a week about 6 times in my life. It's a combination of fasting and other things that I believe cleans out my body. By fasting I mean no solid food. I keep my body functioning by drinking fruit and veggie juices, clear soups, and by drinking an enzyme drink which is (the company claims) made with 50 kinds of fermented fruits, 50 of fermented veggies, and 50 of fermented herbs.

You can't just fast and not put any nutrition in your body. I mean, I suppose you can, but it'll be hell after a couple of days.

If I'm plateauing on a weight cut I'll fast for 24 hours to get things going again. If you're going to do 24 hours it's easiest to go from dinner to dinner so that you're not going to bed hungry.

    "The miracle of fasting."

I tried it. Felt good to me.

p.s. However, there was some controversy surrounding the methods described in the book, and some bio facts claimed by Bragg were contested.

I found it works pretty good for leaning out and having more sustained energy through the day. I typically don't eat until lunch which puts me at about 16-18 hours of fast daily.

If you're adjusted to a diet that is relatively low in carbs then it ain't hard at all. I actually have to remind myself to eat some days.

I would think the Diet/Nutrition sub would be a better place to ask this question though.

After reading stories about people in survival situations going days without food, and after having a conversation with a friend about ketones, I decided to go on a long fast, no food or calories - just water. I was interested in the experience and to see how long I could go. I went 10 and a half days with only water. I wanted to do 14 and make it an even 2 weeks, and probably could have, but the experience was had, so no need to push it and risk a health issue.

Your body starts to produce ketones after 5 or 6 days. You can buy a cheap little test at the drug store. Didn't feel a whole lot different to me. Without any food, you're going to feel light-headed and weak. Lost about 1.2 lbs a day, but I felt it more in my legs than anywhere else, stomach included. Sucks to be hungry, but the first time you get to eat something again, after looking forward to it for so long, it's great. I broke my fast with a little applesauce, then later in the day a club sandwich and fries. The sandwich was actually a little disappointing. Bacon cheeseburger would've been better.

I'm all about slowing. It takes me 4-5 hours to eat a meal. I've never felt healthier.

Diets are hard to stick to, with fasting you can still eat abit of junk here and there

I have a mate that does extreme fasts, (hes also a professional athlete) that last over 2 weeks with nothing but water. Before he finishes his fast he drinks this concoction that cleans his bowels and what not, He showed me a picture of what comes out of him, it honestly looks like he has shit out a kidney
